American Women, Center for American Progress, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Service Employees International Union have joined together to start the Fair Shot Campaign: A plan for women and families to get ahead.
Women’s voices determined the 2012 election – nearly one out of every three voters was a woman who voted for Barack Obama. And though women sent a loud message to their elected officials, we have not seen real policy changes that improve women’s lives and many of our policies remain outdated to the challenges women face.
The focus of this effort is to place women at the center of our public policy debates and to transform the public dialogue that often ignores the central role women play in our society and our economy.
From economic security to health and reproductive rights to expanding opportunities for leadership and career advancement, it’s time for women across the country to come together and have their voices heard. Because it’s time women and families had a fair shot at getting ahead, not just getting by.
